I’d do ’bout anything to get the hell out alive: Rivers Cuomo and Dancing with Who Brought You

Ed. Note:  Remember that whole “I’m only going to write about movies and TV” thing?  Well, that embargo doesn’t account for my friends.  Here is Puck Daddy and The Two-Line Pass‘s own Ryan Lambert’s review of Weezer’s concert in Boston last night, and his thoughts of the Memories tour in whole:

They played the songs in a detached-but-slavishly-faithful sort of way, with one exception. In the middle of the second set’s eighth song, “In the Garage.” In it, Weezer frontman/mastermind/arguable-band-ruiner Rivers Cuomo made one slight shift in inflection, putting a little extra oomph behind the word “stupid.” As in, “I sing these stupid songs.”

And that’s really all you need to know about Weezer’s Memories tour.

Top 10: Simpsons Episodes

Everyone loves a good Top 10 list, right?  With this in mind, my good friend Ryan Lambert, he of The Two-Line Pass blog and a writer for Yahoo’s Puck Daddy hockey blog, recently took it upon himself to come up with “the best” ten episodes of “The Simpsons” ever made.  Considering he is quite the “Simpsons” aficionado, this has to be the best ten period, right?  Enjoy, and debate the list’s merits in the comments….

Recently I had a discussion with a friend of mine about what is the best Simpsons episode. We could not come to an agreement, as, I’m sure, could most people who are deeply devoted fans to a show that has been on television since 1989.

But “The Simpsons” has a somewhat unique problem: Any show that has been on television for 20-plus years is going to turn bad at some point, and while many fans may disagree with me, I personally find that point to be at the conclusion of its eighth, and greatest season. There are some highlights in Seasons 9 and 10. There are none, that I’ve seen, after that.  [Ed. note:  this is 100% unadulterated fact] Read more of this post

Top Ten of the Two Thousands: Ryan

Hipster music authority Pitchfork recently unveiled their list of the top 500 tracks of the last decade.  Naturally, I’d never heard 400 of the songs.  So I figured instead of crying about it, I’d get a few of the most fanatical music lovers I know to do their own Top Tens of the decade that still is.  Every day this week you get a new list (with 5 honorable mentions).  The list is in no specific order; the best ten songs out of ten years of recorded music is enough of an honor (and enough new stuff for you, dear reader, to devour).

Today’s list comes from my good pal Ryan Lambert.  He dresses like a hipster to get girls and listens to Swedish death metal.  Go fig.  Ryan writes a weekly column on Yahoo! Sport’s hockey blog Puck Daddy, contributes to FlamesNation, and on the rare occasion, his own site, The Two Line Pass.  Here are his Top Ten (in alphabetical order, no less)
