The Pursuit Of “Meaning”

There are tons and tons of posts and stories and columns all trying to figure out what the point of this whole thing was.  The rally was never announced as one thing, leading to endless debate on what it might be, could be, should be.  It was one of those situations where we could not simply let the thing stand on its own.  Before the show was over people were already griping about what didn’t happen.  My friend Rachel thinks it was a missed opportunity, that they should have named names, drag to the carpet those who rant on the right, spewing forth with hate speech and vile propaganda.  They didn’t call out the Rightist lunatics who drum up this hate speech, drag them to the carpet and poo-poo them, pointing their righteous fingers and saying how WRONG they are.   But why?  What venue is that suitable for?  More importantly, how is that saneRead more of this post

Sanity (And Rallies Promoting It And/Or Fear)

“I feel like our souls have left our brains” – Rachel

It’s 4:25.  I’m standing in line for a self-serve register at a Safeway (as I have for the last ten minutes), barely keeping upright.  It’s all a blur on how I arrived here.  Outside, there are throngs of people strewn about the streets, waiting patiently in line, forty or fifty strong per store, looking for any form of sustenance.  At one time I was among them.  My merry band of former BU students attempted to get Chipotle…then Chinese food…then went for even the most basic of sandwiches, all to no avail.  Instead, I clutch to my vitamin water and Safeway Select Cheese Trio Pizza like it’s a plane ticket out of Saigon circa 73.  The right side of my face (and only that side) is burnt and is so warm I swear this pizza could be cooked on my cheek.  Hell, the radiation popping off from the sun has to be somewhat equivalent to a microwave, right?  That could work….

And as I stand here, I can’t help but laugh at what got me to this station in the first place:  sanity. Read more of this post

Political Rallies

Hello folks. The blog is on a temporary hold as I make my way down to our nation’s capital for the Stewart/Colbert “Rally for Sanity/March To Keep Fear Alive.”  What does this mean for you, outside of being suuuuper jeal (am i rite)?

Well, this weekend you’ll have no mix to play, pa-rum-pa-pum-pum and there won’t be a post other than this one today. But, I’m down my li’l Kodiak mini-hd recorder and will take diligent notes on the rally with the aim of bringing you a bastardized internet-infused Gonzo journalism take on the event with funny videos in toe.

So have a great weekend and come back Monday for a whole lotta stuff from the Rally (I hope). Like always, if you enjoy the blog, please tell your friends (or like-minded enemies) about its existence.  The more people involved, the more comments, the more we can all discuss various stuff. And isn’t that the goal?  Well, outside of trying to leverage this towards a paying writing gig….

See you cats (metaphorically) on Monday.
